Valldemossa is the most charming and most visited town in Mallorca. With a breathtaking landscape, you’ll helplessly fall in love at first sight with its charming cobblestone streets and breathtaking views. It’s a trip only appropriate for history buffs, keen travellers and those looking for the truly authentic.
In fact, it is included in our list of beautiful villages in Mallorca.
ITS GORGEOUS COBBLESTONE STREETS
The cobblestone streets play the lead role in this emblematic town. Valldemossa is quite the discovery, an experience imbued with genuine local flavour. Valldemossa is explored on foot. Its steep labyrinth-like streets beckon you to get lost amongst them and explore with a quiet walk, enjoying its traditional houses, full of flowers on display on the facades and balconies. And even better: enjoy its lookout points offering unbeatable panoramas of Sierra de Tramuntana
THE CARTUJA, A HISTORIC SYMBOL
Frédéric Chopin called Valldemossa “the most beautiful place in the world”. One winter the composer stayed in the Cartuja, a place awash in history and surrounded by exceptional gardens. And with good reason. Valldemossa is steeped in character and you can allow yourself to say that one of the best pianists and composers in history was on the island. The composer’s essence also comes back to life each year thanks to summer night concerts.
ITS FAMOUS COCA DE PATATA
Tasting the famous coca de patata with a cup of hot chocolate is priceless pleasure, especially during winter and it’s even a Mallorcan tradition for children. For over 100 years and more than three generations, in Ca’n Molinas people have been able to try authentic coca de patata, a dessert that’s become a signature dish for Valldemossa residents, and for all of the town’s visitors.
A CHARMING PORT
Valldemossa, in addition to being in the middle of the mountains, is also just a few kilometres from the sea, where you’ll find another gem of a place: the Port De Valldemossa. A small fishing port, which has held on to all of its authenticity. A place where time stands still so you can enjoy the sea as well as the peace and calm, at least in low season. From the port, set among the mountains and pine forests, we can discover the legendary S’Estaca estate, owned by actor Michael Douglas.
FEEL AT HOME IN CA’N MARIÓ
For an experience with a fully local flavour and a place that has its own identity, what’s better than trying out Mallorcan gastronomy in this cosy place, located on the first floor of a charming village house that’s run by a Mallorcan family. With over a hundred years of history, tasting Mallorcan cuisine at Ca’n Mario is a one-of-a-kind experience in an unparalleled setting with scrumptious mountain views.
This is just the slightest taste of everything Valldemossa‘s got to offer. At just 20km away you’ll find Boutique Hotel Posada Terra Santa, right in the heart of Palma’s old town. The perfect place to stay in order to then set off to visit Mallorca’s top signature towns. Discover Sóller, one of Mallorca’s prettiest towns.
When planning your trip to Mallorca, set aside a day for visiting Valldemossa. Its gorgeous spots, idyllic cobblestone streets and surroundings make it truly special will leave their mark on you, and even did on Chopin.
