Playa Beach Strand

Today we’ve got a nature-imbued tour of the best beaches of Palma de Mallorca lined up for you. Discover locations that will enchant lovers of white sandy beaches, transparent water and coves featuring blue, crystal-clear waves. Immerse yourself in the authentic essence of the Mediterranean.

The beaches are one of the main reasons for a trip to  Mallorca. Another is its heritage, but we’re going to talk to you about the most charming and highest quality beaches on this paradise-like Balearic island. In truth, they’re the 7 best beaches in Mallorca.

The beast beaches in Palma

Hotel Boutique Posada Terra Santa is located right in Palma de Mallorca’s old town and is perfect for exploring  the best coves in Mallorca, as well as 7 of Mallorca’s top beaches. If you need a different type of accommodations such as Luxury Suites, we have Samaritana Suites available as well as Countryside Villa in Mallorca Son Catxo, a villa with all the amenities for your Mallorcan holiday.

As far as beaches are concerned, here is a map of the best ones in Mallorca and where they are, so you can get your bearings.

PLAYA DEL MAGO, THE ESSENCE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

The best beaches in Palma - Playa del Mago

One of the prettiest and wildest coves, where the vegetation extends right down to the shore. Its name stems from the fact that this beach was used to shoot The Magus, starring Anthony Quinn and Michael Caine. A small oasis surrounded by spectacular pine forests and transparent waters. You should know that it is a nudist beach, although nowadays many nudists complain that the beach has an increasing amount of voyeurs at it and people who do not respect nudism, who the nudists call ‘textiles’.

It is located quite near to Magaluf, south of Palma de Mallorca. It is good to keep in mind that there are actually two beaches, I hope you like them.

FORMENTOR BEACH, THE SIERRA DE TRAMUNTANA’S EXPANSE OF SAND DUNES

The best beaches in Palma - Formentor beach

A beautifully calm sea flanked by mountains located in the north of the island, one of the few sandy coves of the Sierra de Tramuntana enclosed by a forest of pine trees and holm oaks. Its setting has made it one of the most exclusive beaches and one of Mallorca’s most spectacular natural landscapes.

Its clear waters are another of its great attractions and make it one of Mallorca’s top beaches. Note that the nearby car park charges 12 euros for the whole day.

ES TRENC, THE MEDITERRANEAN CARIBBEAN

The best beaches in Palma - Es Trenc

The most beautiful of beaches, with its almost two kilometres of white sand blending with a sea of crystal-clear waters and an impressive palette of blues. It’s practically a little piece of the Caribbean in the Mediterranean: a virgin stretch of beach where there are neither shadows nor buildings. The beach is divided up into three sub-beaches, Arenal den Tem, Arenal den Tenc and Playa de Es Trenc, with the last one being the closest to Colonia de Sant Jordi. You’ll be sure to find its unspoilt environment captivating.

Here you’ll be able to enjoy water activities like snorkelling.

PLAYA DE MURO, AN IDYLLIC BEACH FOR FAMILIES

The best beaches in Palma - Playa del Muro

This is Mallorca’s largest sandy beach and easily accessible, boasting a range of restaurants and facilities. It’s ideal for families owing to the shallow water, which turn it almost into a natural swimming pool. If you go 50 metres out into the sea, you’ll find see that the water is still completely safe for the kids. It is located to the south of Alcudia, in the island’s northeast. You will find lots of parking areas even in high season, and if you have children I’d say it’s the best choice for you.

THE DELTA, WILD COVES

The best beaches in Palma - The Delta

Nestling among stunning cliff-faces are former quarries forming inlets of blue water and an impressive Sea Club with a pool right next to the sea; from here it’s possible to savour, as well as the sight of cliffs, one of the island’s most breathtaking sunsets. A small beach in a spectacular cove which is rather unfrequented even in high season. However, it’s true that to get there you will have to walk for quite a bit, about 20 minutes, so think about that before you go. From our experience at Posada Terra Santa, it is well worth the walk, and you can enjoy some incredible views along the way.

As an important note, it is only a 15 minute drive from Palma.

CALA DEÍA, A PARADISE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIERRA

“Mallorca is paradise, if you can resist it,” Gertrude Stein said to Robert Graves, the British poet who made his home in Deiá. Its cove, nestling among cliffs, offers one of the island’s most spectacular natural landscapes. It boasts a rustic restaurant right next to the shoreline – Ca’s Patro March – where excellent fresh fish and shellfish are served. It is located quite near the Port of Sóller in Mallorca’s northwest. The 70 metres of beach at Cala Deia mean that you’ll have to get up early in the morning in high season to get a spot. It’s worth it.

PLAYA S’AMARADOR, IN CALA MONDRAGÓ

Exceptionally clean turquoise waters and lots of pine trees. Depending on where you look, you’ll either think you’re at the sea or in the countryside. It is a fine-grained sand beach in Mondragó Natural Park, where you’ll find a wide range of diverse flora and fauna. Park in the free car park and walk less than half a kilometre to the beach.

It is situated on the south of the island, with all the services that a beach can have, such as a beach bar, swimming and sun loungers. Have a look at your surroundings while you take a dip at S’Amarador, we’re sure it’s something you won’t forget.

The island is studded with impressive beaches, from small, tucked-away coves to immense stretches of white sand. Our recommendation is to hire a car to be able to explore the best beaches of Palma de Mallorca with complete freedom. And to reach its most hidden-away coves, if there’s one experience that’s unique and unforgettable it’s to tour them by boat and to let yourself be carried away by the purest essence of the Mediterranean.
