SA CALOBRA BEACH: A MUST-SEE ON THE ISLAND

Calobra

Are you thinking of visiting Mallorca on your next vacation? If so, from Posada Terra Santa, our Palma boutique hotel, we recommend that you visit Sa Calobra Beach, an incredible set of two genuine beaches sheltered by steep rocky cliffs that are also divided by the Torrent de Pareis, the gorge of a river located on the northwest coast of the island. Do you have an idea of the impressive landscape that you will glimpse around this amazing place? Let’s find out!

HOW TO GET TO SA CALOBRA BEACH

Sa Calobra has become one of the most popular places on the island and the way to get there is almost as exciting as visiting the beach. The easiest access is by boat or ferry, but it can also be reached by car or bus. Of course, the road is extremely winding so it is not recommended for those who tend to get dizzy. You will find yourself with a winding descent through the Sierra de Tramuntana, but it is worth the risk because you will be able to stop along the way to admire the wonderful landscape and once you are at the bottom the views will undoubtedly surprise you.

SA CALOBRA AND TORRENT DE PAREIS

The Torrent de Pareis is a 3 km long canyon with vertical walls 200 meters high that begins in S’ Enreforc and ends with two more torrents, which are Lluc and Gorg Blau. Its mouth is Sa Calobra, a cove that is between two cliffs.

The water of Sa Calobra is turquoise and very clear, but it is usually colder than the rest of the beaches on the island, but it is usually very calm, there are also buoys to signal the boats and yachts that pass by. It is true that there are many pebbles, but being small they are not at all annoying if we take into account that the area is well maintained and clean.

Watching the sunset from Sa Calobra is quite an experience, and if you do it in the low season, you will appreciate a unique and calm landscape that has been the inspiration of many artists for generations.

Sa Calobra has simple bathrooms, lifeguard services, access for people with disabilities, and parking. Is it possible to park without paying? Yes, only if you arrive early and are willing to walk a bit.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS AND SURROUNDINGS OF SA CALOBRA

Sa Calobra doesn’t have water sports, so its main activity is to relax without excessive crowds and take a long walk along the coast. You can also go hiking or follow a bike route.

Important fact: remember to wear other footwear in addition to the beach flip-flops, as some areas are very slippery and inclined.

Getting to Sa Calobra takes about an hour from the city center, so if you decide to go by car we encourage you to visit the Lluc Monastery, which was built in the 13th century and is considered a sacred and pilgrimage place by the excellence of the island, because the Virgin of Lluc, patron saint of Mallorca, resides there.

You can also visit other nearby places like Pollensa to the north, and Soller to the south. Both towns have many cafes, restaurants, and shops and are less than 2 hours drive from Sa Calobra.
